Bittersweet

Digital, 2024 · Digital, printed to size

In the West, weddings are purely celebratory. Yet, for many traditional South Asian women, the occasion elicits a complexity of emotions. It often means leaving the home that raised you and building a life inside another family's walls. For such women, if I were to sum up this beautiful day in one word, it would be bittersweet. This greyscale study of light attempts to the duality of both emotions without resolving them — letting sorrow and beauty coexist.
